Microsoft job adverts reveal Surface 2 tablets and more

It would seem Microsoft has inadvertently revealed that work on its Surface 2 tablets has already begun, after posting a number of job adverts online.
Despite Microsoft’s first-generation tablet devices - the Microsoft Surface for Windows RT and the Microsoft Surface for Windows 8 Pro – having yet to go on sale, the company is on a recruitment drive as it looks to build on momentum to take on the iPad and Android tablets.
The job adverts, that were posted on Microsoft’s careers site between June and August, all began with the following:
"The Surface Team focuses on lighting up Microsoft experiences with touch first computing. A fundamental part of our strategy is having desirable and powerful devices that enable the experiences people want, and elicit their excitement. Creating these devices involves a close partnership between hardware and software engineers, designers, and manufacturing. We are currently building the next generation and Surface needs you!"
Microsoft goes on to talk about “fast-paced product development cycles” suggesting the Surface 2 will quickly be followed by a third and fourth, while specific job descriptions reveal even more about what we might expect.

For example, the position for a materials engineer says the person appointed will be working with PVD. PVD stands for Physical Vapour Deposition, which when applied correctly can waterproof a device. That’s not all, the person who gets the job

Nexus 7 review

We have a love-hate relationship with the Android tablet. You can see it written across the pages of Pocket-lint, through numerous reviews. Do it right and the Android tablet is a wonderful companion. Do it wrong, and it's an awkward shoehorning of the wrong software into cheap hardware.

The Google Nexus 7 is the first device to arrive with Android 4.1, Jelly Bean. For those who have been using an Ice Cream Sandwich or Honeycomb tablet, Jelly Bean isn't a huge departure from previous Android versions.

Samsung badges flexible AMOLED screens as Youm

Samsung has quietly given a name to its flexible AMOLED technology in a sign it's getting closer to a real launch. Now called Youm, it makes the thin film transistor and the encapsulation entirely out of film instead of glass. The changes not only let it bend and fold freely but, according to Samsung, make it "unbreakable," thinner, and lighter.

Asus Transformer Pad Infinity review

We think that Asus, even more than Samsung, has produced the most interesting tablets, along with Apple. The firm threw itself into Android tablets from the start, and has really pushed the keyboard dock, giving people a way of getting more out of their tablets, and even offering the chance to ditch that old Windows laptop for something small, light and with amazing battery life

Denon has unveiled two docking speakers that can stream your music no matter whether you’re an iPhone, Android or Windows user.

Nissan e-NV200: Electric taxi to trial in London in 2013

Not only is Nissan set to produce what it believes to be London's future black cab, it's also confirmed that an electric-powered taxi, built on its e-NV200 concept, is also in the works.

Speaking at the NV200 London taxi launch in London, Andy Palmer, executive vice-president of Nissan, announced: "Nissan will be testing a fully electric cab on the streets of London from 2013. These trial vehicles will be part of a feasibility study which could see the e-NV200 fully operational, in the capital, from spring 2014."
